Vídidalsá is one of Iceland's most recognized fly waters. It has a reputation for producing exceptionally large salmon and big Arctic Char. It is located about 230km from Reykjavik and is fished mainly via the luxurious Lax-à lodge. The fishing season runs from June 24th to September 24th although the prime time is from July 10th to August 24th. The average fish size is around 4kg and all salmon over 70 cm must be released.   The water temperature is stable during the fishing season, so the same selection of flies works for the whole season. Although when temperature drops slightly in September, anglers would do well to bring heavier tubes/flies.

The best flies are:
  1. Hitch tubes and micro-hitch tubes
  2. Black & Red Frances (micro-cones and flies, sizes 14 – 20)
  3. Colburn special (sizes 12 – 18)
  4. Collie Dog
  5. Green Butt (micro-cones and flies, sizes 14 – 20)
  6. Green Brahan (micro-cones and flies, sizes 14 – 20)
  7. Black & Blue (micro-cones and flies, sizes 14 – 20)
